Operating under the professional supervision of the Minister of Justice, OFFI Ltd. is the National Translation Office responsible for attested translations in Hungary. OFFI’s activities are carried out in accordance with legal provisions. The ISO 17100 standard was published for language service providers in 2015 by aligning the requirements of the EN 15038 standard with the ISO framework system.

In the summer of 2018 the auditors of Bureau Veritas Hungary confirmed that OFFI Ltd. fully conformed to the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015 standards.

OFFI Ltd. has had a number of developments in recent years and has become an ISO 17100 certified Hungarian translation agency in most areas of translation services, receiving certifications for five different LSP-related activities:

  • Lista illusztráció
  • Preparing general (non-attested) translations for commercial purposes
  • Preparing attested translations
  • Attesting translations
  • Preparing attested copies
  • Revising

Official translation services of the state were originally provided by the Central Translation Department founded in 1869. Today OFFI Ltd. is entitled to carry out attested translation services in Hungary. In order to obtain ISO 17100 certification, OFFI Ltd. cooperated with a highly reliable certification agency of similarly long traditions. Bureau Veritas was established in 1828 “to seek out the truth and tell it without fear or favour”. Their reliability was the gage of independent certification for the Hungarian Office for Translation and Attestation Ltd. The integrated ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015 certifications cover the renewed operation of OFFI’s 27 offices providing services all over the country.

To celebrate this important milestone, OFFI Ltd. makes available on its homepage to each member of the professional community the Hungarian equivalents of 42 English terms and definitions used in international standard ISO 17100. ISO specific terms and definitions related to translating, translation services, as well as translation workflow and technology, etc. were verified by prominent experts of five Hungarian universities. We do hope that through this gesture we can promote the dialogue among market players, customers and translation scholars, helping them to be on “good terms” with each other….
