The integrated quality management system of OFFI Ltd, as well as the implementation and documentation of our processes are appropriate and comply with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015 standards. This was confirmed in June 2019 by the organisation conducting a surveillance audit to verify compliance with ISO standards. The ISO 17100 standard reflecting the most up-to-date market and professional requirements, was created specifically for translation service providers and therefore, the successful audit is also another milestone in the field of quality improvement in our organisation. Bureau Veritas emphasised that OFFI Ltd had also successfully introduced the strengthening of leadership engagement, the process approach and risk-based thinking prescribed in the ISO 9001:2015 standard.

Bureau Veritas

The audit report highlighted the best practices of OFFI Ltd: the project-based operation at every part of the organisation, the effective use of intranet for real-time communication, as well as the significance of documented knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer. OFFI Ltd has by now become a Hungarian translation agency with integrated ISO certification in most segments of translation services: since 2019, it has had certification in five areas related to language mediation:

  • commercial (non-certified) translation,
  • certified translation,
  • certifying translations,
  • preparing certified copies,
  • revising.

Bureau Veritas, the certifying agency, was established in 1828 to “to seek out the truth and tell it without fear or favour”. The integrated ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015 certification applies to the modernised activities of all 27 offices of OFFI covering the entire area of Hungary.

Knowledge sharing is considered a mission at OFFI Ltd and therefore, already in 2018, it made available to all members of the professional community the correct Hungarian equivalents of 42 English terms and definitions in the ISO 17100 standard. We compiled the translation of the terms and definitions related to translating and translation services, as well as the translation process and technology, among other things, together with acknowledged experts from five Hungarian universities. We do hope that we can contribute through this gesture to facilitating the dialogue between market players, clients and translation researchers, to finding the “common language” that we all need and to building relevant terminologies.
